Why Family Photos Are So Important: Golden Hour Photos at Centennial Beach

As a mom, I know how important it is to capture every moment with my family. Whether it's a small milestone or just a moment of joy, I try my best to capture it all. That's why when the Bazzard family reached out to me for a family photo session, I didn't hesitate. We decided to take the photos at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen during golden hour, and it was an experience I'll never forget. In this blog post, I want to share with you why family photos are so important, and how this photo session was a beautiful reminder of that.

1. Memories: The first reason why family photos are so important is that they capture memories that will last a lifetime. When you look back at them, you'll remember how you felt, what you were doing, and who you were with. That's exactly what the Bazzard family wanted to do with our photo session. They wanted to make sure that they had beautiful photos to look back on when their daughter is all grown up and they can reminisce about their happy days spent together.

2. Connection: When you take family photos, you're not just taking pictures of faces, you're capturing the connection between family members. You'll see how much you love each other and cherish each other's company. That's exactly what happened during our photo session at Centennial Beach. The love between this family was palpable, and it was a beautiful reminder of why family is so important.

3. Milestones: Another reason why family photos are so important is that they capture milestones in your life. Whether it's your child's first birthday or their first day of kindergarten, these moments are important to remember. In our photo session, we captured the Bazzard family's daughter playing in the sand, searching for seashells, and laughing with her parents. These are the moments that they will look back on with fondness, and they will see how much they've grown and changed over time.

4. Happiness: When you take family photos, you're capturing pure happiness. The joy that comes from spending time with your loved ones is something that cannot be replicated. During our photo session, I saw firsthand how happy the Bazzard family was. They laughed, played, and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a beautiful reminder that happiness can be found in the smallest moments, and family is what makes life worth living.

5. Love: Finally, family photos capture love. It's a love that is indescribable but can be seen in every photo taken. I saw that love during our photo session with the Bazzard family. They had a love that was so pure and genuine, and it was a beautiful reminder that love is the foundation of family.

Family photos are so important for so many reasons. They capture memories, connection, milestones, happiness, and love. Our photo session at Centennial Beach was a beautiful reminder of that. It was a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, we should always make time for family. We should always cherish and capture those special moments because they will last a lifetime. So, take those family photos, and don't feel guilty for doing so. Because when you look back at them, you'll be reminded of just how lucky you are.

The Perfect Family Photo Session: The Bird Family at Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen

As a mom myself, we always want to capture the perfect moment with our families. And one of the most special moments to capture is our family photo. It is a moment that we want to cherish forever, a memory that we want to pass down to our children and grandchildren. And moms, we take so many photos of our family, it’s always nice to be in them for a change. I loved everything about this family photo session I did with the Bird family at the Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen. And I'm happy to share with you their unforgettable photo session.

We arrived at Earthwise Garden just before sunset. The golden hour, the time before the sun goes down where the light is soft and golden, is the perfect time for a photo session. And, boy, were we in for a treat! The garden was filled with colorful flowers that were in full bloom. It was like stepping into an enchanted garden that would make any fairy tale come to life. Mom Nikki did a wonderful job coordinating their outfits. They wore earthy colors that complemented the beauty of the garden. Throughout the session, the family was so easy to photograph. The kids were so cheerful and full of energy, which made the whole experience feel so natural and effortless. It was lovely to see the family having fun, enjoying each other's company and just being themselves. I felt so blessed to be able to capture their love and joy in photos! As the sun set, the golden light became softer and gave the photos a warm and dreamy atmosphere. It was as if the garden was glowing in gold. It was the perfect time to capture that classic, timeless shot we all hope to get. The Bird family looked so beautiful and happy, and the photos were absolutely stunning.

It was an unforgettable experience to capture the Bird family's photo session at Earthwise Garden during golden hour. Mom Nikki's coordination was impeccable, and the garden was the perfect backdrop for a magical shoot. The whole experience was so joyful and effortless, and the photos were just breathtaking. It reminded me that family photos are not just a reminder of what we look like, but of who we are and the love we share. I hope this blog has inspired you to plan your own family photo session, and capture more memories that you can cherish for a lifetime.

Celebrating Love at HMSC Discovery Naval Reserve: Chris and Jake's Beautiful Wedding at Stanley Park

Love knows no bounds and it was evident in every moment of Chris and Jake's wedding at HMSC Discovery Naval Reserve on Stanley Park. This couple chose a stunning location to exchange their vows, amidst the tranquil beauty of Vancouver's largest natural park, Stanley Park. Capturing the essence of this wedding was a real privilege for me. From the "getting ready" photos at the Delta hotel downtown Vancouver to the magical sunset ceremony and reception at HMSC Discovery, every moment was filled with joy, laughter, and heartfelt emotions. I'm so excited to share the highlights of this beautiful wedding with you!

The preparations for the big day began at the Delta hotel in downtown Vancouver where Chris and Jake got ready with their closest friends. Both guys looked oh so handsome (just check out the photos!). I captured incredible moments of laughter, fun conversations, and excited moments between the two wedding parties.

Once the preparations were complete, we moved to Stanley Park for the ceremony and reception. As we walked through the Westcoast surroundings, the stunning HMSC Discovery Naval Reserve came into view.

Chris and Jake's ceremony at HMSC Discovery was a beautiful reflection of their love for each other. Surrounded by loved ones and nature, these two exchanged heartfelt vows that were teeming with love. So much love and joy between the family and friends as they witnessed the union of these two.

After the ceremony, we moved to the reception area, which was strategically placed to give a magnificent view of the city. The decors, the flowers, the speeches, and the music all combined to create an ambiance that was fitting for such a joyous occasion. There were tears of joy and emotion, laughter, and heartfelt embraces. Chris and Jake's wedding was indeed a celebration of love in its purest form, and every detail was meticulously planned to create a memorable experience.

As the sun set behind the Vancouver skyline, we captured some stunning photographs of the couple, with Downtown Vancouver in the background.

At the end of the day, Chris and Jake's wedding was truly an unforgettable experience, one that I'll will always cherish. The wedding was a testament to the fact that love knows no boundaries and that it can be celebrated in many ways. Celebrate your love, make it magical, and most importantly, make it your own. Thank you, Chris and Jake, for giving me the opportunity to capture your special moments!

A Beautiful Affair at UBC Boathouse | Brooke & Michaels Wedding

Brooke and Michaels wedding at UBC Boathouse last summer was nothing short of breathtaking. I had the privilege of photographing their special day for my company Community Photography. From capturing their getting ready moments to their emotional first look, followed by a stunning ceremony and reception, this wedding had it all. The day was filled with love, laughter, and pure bliss, making it a dream come true for the couple and their guests. If you're a bride-to-be and looking for some inspiration for your big day, stay tuned, as we're about to take you through all the incredible moments captured at Brooke and Michaels wedding.

The day started at the River Rock Casino in Richmond where Brooke was getting ready. Her bridesmaids (Michaels two beautiful daughters!) were by her side during her preparations, helping her with her dress, make-up, and hair. I was there to capture all the behind-the-scene moments and couldn't help but admire how stunning Brooke looked in her wedding dress. The excitement was palpable in the room, and everyone was looking forward to the wedding ceremony.

The bride and groom then proceeded to the venue, the UBC Boathouse, for the ceremony. The venue was beautifully decorated with floral arrangements that matched the rustic charm of the place. Brooke walked down the aisle looking radiant, and Michael's reaction upon seeing her was priceless. The ceremony was a mix of laughs and tears, and the couple exchanged vows that melted everyone's hearts.

The venue provided a perfect backdrop for the photographs, with the couple and their guests having a great time posing for the camera. As the sun started setting, we were able to capture some stunning sunset shots which created a romantic and magical mood.

The reception space is sunning, set on the Fraser River. The evening was filled with speeches, dancing, and great food. The guests danced the night away, and the venue was filled with laughter and fun.

Brooke and Michaels wedding at UBC Boathouse will forever be one of my favourite.  It was a day full of love, warmth, and fun. Brooke and Michaels wedding is proof that weddings are not just about the destination but the journey and the memories that last a lifetime.

Thanks so much for having me! I loved every moment :) xo P

Ladner Family Photos | Kym of The Happy Photos | Community Photography South Delta

I had the most wonderful time with Kym and her family at their annual family photo session last year! On a sunny day in Ladner, we visited an apple orchard to capture some pretty incredible family moments.

The photos were taken at golden hour, when the light is soft and the colors are all glowy. We captured a range of emotion and energy as the kids played in the orchard. It was clear that Kym and her family have a total bond and just love spending time together. Each snap of the camera caught something special between them.

This sweet family has been having photos taken by me, Paige Fraser of Community Photography, for years now. I have had the privilege of watching Kym's family grow and capturing these special memories for her. Kym always does an amazing job at choosing wardrobe and scouting locations for her family photos in Ladner and Tsawwassen.

Kym, I hope you cherished for many years to come! What a beautiful family! Thank you, Kym and your lovely family, for allowing me to document these precious moments in time.

Spanish Banks Family Photos | Vancouver, BC | Community Photography

I first met Jeannine and Kevin two years ago when I did their son’s maternity photos. When I met them the first time it was a beautiful mid-summer evening at Centennial Beach and we had a perfect pastel night to photograph. For their daughters maternity session, it was March, colder and we had a toddler in the mix!

We met up at Spanish Banks in the morning after already having rescheduled due to poor weather. Even though the forecast was calling for rain, it held off during our shoot and we were able to capture some really cool skies! It was a grey, foggy, morning and made for completely different photos from the last shoot which was great!

At the start of the shoot they let me know that their son loves to cuddle mom and dad – and so that’s what we did! I didn’t want to force anything unnatural for the photos and they were so happy to roll with it and so easygoing with each other. They were such a dream to photograph!

To the Shaw family, thank you guys so much for choosing me again to be your family photographer to capture both of your maternity sessions. I look forward to our next session together once and meet your baby girl once she arrives!

Centennial Beach Maternity Photos | Tsawwassen, BC | Community Photography South Delta

There is nothing dreamier than a snowy maternity session at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen! I’ve had the privilege of working with Tiffany and her family from her first maternity session, through cake smash photos, newborn photos and now round two maternity photos. Every time we meet Tiffany does an amazing job with wardrobe choices and styling her session. She wore a maternity dress from my client wardrobe and the pastel pink matched perfectly with the sunset.

Scheduling a snowy photo session in Tsawwassen is tricky to do..because if you live in Vancouver, you know the snow never sticks around for that long! We were lucky enough to have her photos scheduled for a time when the snow did stick around for a week over the Christmas break. In the hour before the scheduled start time of the Drewlow families maternity session, the family was stuck in terrible traffic caused by a car accident. Tiffany and I were on the phone trying to make a ‘plan B’ in case they couldn’t make it. Luckily they arrived 30 minutes before sunset and we had just enough time to capture some very beautiful photos as the sun was going down! Her little daughter Ella was such a trooper in the cold winter weather :) she was so happy to be snuggling and playing with mom and dad.

I’m so thankful we were able to make this session happen. It was the most beautiful evening and the Drewlow family looked just as stunning to match it! Thank you for coming to Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen. It’s always my go to spot for family photos!

Tsawwassen Family Photos | Centennial Beach | Community Photography South Delta

This was a super cool family photo session for me because I graduated highschool with both Alysha and Neil. SDSS class of 2005! And here we are, 16 years later, both raising our kids in Tsawwassen.

It was awesome to reconnect with these two and meet their beautiful daughter Brooklyn. We met for their family photo session at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen. I generally like to schedule the start times of my photoshoots around sunset, however, that can be super late for little kids in the late spring and summer time when the sun doesn't set until 9pm. We met around 5pm and captured some beautiful and bright photos at this time.

Alysha looks SO stunning in her beautiful green dress and her hair and makeup was perfect. Little Brooklyn reminded me of my own kids, fun loving and busy! She had just found how to walk and that's all she wanted to do. We played games with her and she was just so happy to be with mom and dad :)

Boundary Bay Family Photos | Tsawwassen, BC | Community Photography South Delta

I LOVED taking photos with Sanj and her family! This family photo session was originally planned for back in February, however, due to a combination of weather and Covid we pushed the date to May. And I can say I’m SO happy we did! We had a sunset to remember and one of the first beautiful and warm evenings of the year.

I met Sanj and her beautiful family down from Centennial Beach in Boundary Bay for their family photos. They looked amazing wearing blue and their energy was so amazing to be around. I could tell from the start the way they laughed and smiled their photos would turn out just perfect.

We spent the evening laughing, playing and enjoying the beach and the sunset. The Boundary Bay sunset was a perfect pastel blue. They made my job so easy and effortless by just enjoying this time together as a family, which you can totally see come through in their photos.

Sanj, thank you SO much for choosing me to capture these moments for you! I loved our time together and hopefully we can do it again down the road!

Paige :)

Fraser River Maternity Photos | Ladner, BC | Community Photography South Delta

This maternity session was a special one for me. The dreamy girl you see in the photos is one of my best friends! It’s such an amazing things watching your friends who you’ve experienced so much life with make the transition into motherhood. And it’s EXTRA special when you’re able to document it through photos.

The day leading up to Meghan’s maternity photos were cold and wet in South Delta. The weather forecast was calling for rain all day with sunny breaks at sunset. These type of unpredictable days are such a gamble…you’ll either have rainy looking photos OR if the sun breaks through, the most beautiful sunset. As I was driving down the highway from Tsawwassen to Ladner, the sun broke through the clouds and I knew we were in for a great sunset that night.

We took Meghan’s maternity photos down by the Fraser River in Ladner. Meghan arrived looking amazing (as always) and she chose two dresses from my client wardrobe to wear. We spent the next hour taking her photos, laughing and exploring the area. The sunset was AMAZING and it totally complimented her beautiful baby bump.

So much love for this momma and feeling so blessed I was able to capture it on camera :)

Billinger Family Photos in Boundary Bay || Tsawwassen, BC

I can’t think of a year where documenting your happy family memories has ever been more important. Time moves fast and can change in an instant Or, it can feel like a blur of days, weeks and months that are all the same, especially in 2020, the year of Covid. Which makes it super important to capture the moments on camera.

Remember the summer of 2020? The summer days felt like everything was almost back to normal, or maybe we were just getting used to our new way of life. It was great.

Looking back on these images, everything felt so soft and lovely and romantic, and I just loved how the Billinger family made one of my much loved photo locations totally their own. Carlie, Shawn and their beautiful golden haired daughter giggled, snuggled, laughed and tickled their way through this gorgeous family session,.

Thanks Carlie for asking me to take your family photos. I love shooting with you and your family. It is such a pleasure and I can’t wait to do it again sometime soon :)

Amanda & Jackson's Schoolhouse Farm Wedding | Ladner BC

Jackson and Amanda, how do I even being to describe how awesome these two humans are? Like seriously, from the moment I met them at Starbucks las year, you just get the vibe they are happy content people who are just in love. They rolled with the punches Covid threw their way. From a cancelled wedding, to a smaller more intimate wedding, they took wedding planning in stride and just said regardless of what Covid brings their going to be married, together and happy.

This was an extra cool wedding for me because I had the pleasure of working with my sisters wedding planning company Epic Events . Joey (from Epic Events) was a dream planner to work with (if you’re getting married - hire him!), he was fun company, thorough, efficient and everyone just loved him!

The wedding venue, Schoolhouse Farm, in Ladner was the perfect backdrop for the wedding day, and they also provided all of the stunning flowers! The reception venue, The Cabin in Crescent Beach was one of the coolest venues with delicious food.

Okay back to the wedding day. Amanda looked so so so stunning in her dress and she had the most radiant smile the whole day. All of the guests who attended the wedding were the biggest fan’s of this couple. I (the photographer) had so many guests come and tell me how special the couple was to them and how happy they were they were getting married. Everyone was rooting for them! The fun group of family and friends celebrated this wonderful couple.

Amanda and Jackson, thank you for having me be apart of your wonderful intimate wedding! It was such a pleasure :)

Boundary Bay Family Photos with the MacKenzie's | Tsawwassen, British Columbia

The BEST family photos are when the parents embrace the moment with their kids and let go of perfection. This way, it allows for so many beautiful candid moment and your kids feel comfortable to be themselves. Their personality is what I want to capture and when parents go with the flow and enjoy the moment, kids shine so bright! And that is just what happened with Kristin from ‘Birth with Kristin’ and her husband Shawn. They embraced the beautiful chaos that 3 kids under 5 brings. Their patience and easy nature made for a memorable photo session. Kristin even made a comment that she was just happy her daughter didn’t wear her Spider Man costume to the session..but if she had..so be it :)

It was a beautiful summer night in August when I met the MacKenzie family in Boundary Bay for their family photos. Not a cloud in the sky and warm temperature, even after the sun went down. We started with their photo shoot with youngest son Ace’s cake smash photos. I had taken Ace’s newborn photos last year (you can check them out here!) and I can’t believe it was already his 1st Birthday! We got some great shots of him digging into his cake and even BETTER shots once his two older sister joined in the fun!

After his cake smash and a quick outfit change (the girls were wearing the cutest Rylee & Cue dresses from Buttercups Children’s Boutique in Ladner), we headed down to the beach in Tsawwassen for more family photos. The night had a perfect sunset and the family had fun with each other, laughing, cuddling and in the end climbing onto a log that had washed ashore.

To the Mackenzie family, you guys are seriously SO much fun to take photos with. Your calm and loving energy is so present it shows in all your photos. I hope we can do it again soon!

xoxo Paige

Deas Island Engagement Session with Kevin & Meghan | Ladner, BC Engagement Photos

This engagement session at Deas Park in Ladner was a super special one for me. Meghan has been one of my besties and adventure pal since our 20s. We lived together in Australia where when we went to University together and when we moved back to South Delta, Meghan and I moved to Dubai to work for Emirates Airline! We’ve had so many great adventures and now I’m so excited she’s onto her next adventure, she’s engaged to s stand up guy and they are expecting their first baby in the spring!

If you’re Meghan’s friend you’re super lucky. She is so much fun has the biggest heart and always up to do something fun. One memory from Australia is we’d get so caught up in our conversations while walking, we’d think the other person was leading the way, however, we’d end up walking into the Australian bush not paying attention where we were going! This happened more than once..So on their engagement session at Deas Park I led her and Kevin into the Ladner bush..the tallest grass you ever did see to take some photos. They were such troopers and were so great in front of the camera. We laughed a lot (maybe they were laughing more at me?) and had a great evening. They were so easy to work with and lots of love was going around. Just look at the photos #couplegoals

It was a perfect late day for their engagement session. It was an overcast evening but as it always seems to do in South Delta, the sky lightened up just in time for sunset when we walked down to the doc.

Meg + Kev, thanks so much for hanging with me and giving me the pleasure of taking your engagement photos! I seriously loved taking them for you and I’m so happy for your next adventure together and as a family of three!

xoxo P

2nd Birthday Photos at Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay, Tsawwassen

This little love is turning 2!

I had the pleasure of meeting the Bellinger family this past summer for their Boundary Bay family photos. I LOVED working with momma Carlie. She has an eye for detail and loves putting effort into her photo sessions. She plans the perfect outfits and had a vision for her session. We would go back and forth with outfit recommendations, location options and photos she hoped to capture.

We did little Elle’s birthday photos a week before her big day. We met up at the fields just off Centennial Beach on they dyke. Her photos look so bright and have a dreamy sunset in the background, however, if you looked the other way there was a HUGE dark rain cloud moving in fast!

Elle is such a sweetheart and a pleasure to take photos with. It was awesome capturing these milestone photos for her and her family!

Welcome Baby Vivienne | Tsawwassen Newborn Photos | Community Photography South Delta

Local mom , Carmen, and I share a love for some of the same things...supporting local and small shop shopping, more specifically, Buttercups Children’s Boutique in Ladner! We connected for her newborn photos through owner Jessica of Buttercups after I'd taken her at-home newborn photos.

I showed up to Carmen's house in Tsawwassen for her newborn photos. I can't say they were actually newborn photos; baby Vivienne was born during the Covid lockdown and so she was actually a couple months old by the time the photos were taken. Two months may be my new favourite age for baby pics though because you get beautiful pictures of babies eyes focusing on camera and some smiles…or maybe it was just baby Vivienne, she was just the sweetest to take photos of. Combo her with her big brother and it was a cuteness overload :)

There are so many reasons why I loved taking photos for Carmen and her family:

1.) OMG her SON Sawyer! The worlds cutest 18 month old with a big personality and a love for his little sister. Just look at the pictures and of his rolls and his OUTFIT!

2.) Carmen and baby V were a dream to photograph! Both so photogenic and comfortable in front of the camera and it was amazing to see baby V follow suit of her momma and together they just played off their love for each other!

3.) Dad went with the flow and was game for everything! Nothing phased him, with a big smile on his face he just enjoyed this time spent snuggling with his family while taking pics.

It was such a pleasure to work with this lovely family at their home for baby V's at home newborn photos in Tsawwassen. I look forward to our family session together!

Boundary Bay Family Photos with the Dewaele's | Tsawwassen Family Photos

One cool part of my job as a photographer is it's provided some totally amazing chances to re-connect with people from my past. Along with a little business driving force called social media, it's allowed my work to be shared, be seen and draw in new clients, some I've known it seems like forever!

Amy Dewaele, a rockstar South Surrey/White Rock Real Estate agent, reached out to me after she had seen photos on from my sister’s family photo session on Instagram (check out the pics HERE!). Growing up, we had been family friends so it was so nice to re-connect all these years later!

I showed up early to our Boundary Bay photoshoot location, which I always do, just to check out the beach conditions. When I arrived, I noticed the city had cut the grass in the location I had been starting out portraits all summer. And it wasn't just a little 'haircut' it was an actual hack job, a bad buzz cut of all the beautiful flowy grass that was tried and true for stunning photography. So I had to improvise and I found another location with beautiful light! It always pays off to show up early for work :)

We got into taking family photos and I just loved the energy from the two boys. Happy kids with fun energy (even if I have to chase them around for a bit :) are the best to photograph. They always make for genuine candid moments, big smiles and lots of laughs. Mom and Dad went with the flow and kept smiling the whole time. The evening in Tsawwassen was beautiful and not a cloud in the sky - a perfect night for family pictures.

Thanks to the Dewaele family for meeting up with me in Tsawwassen for your family pictures. It was such a blast keeping up with the kiddos and re-connecting with you Amy. I'm sure we'll run into each other at Tap Restaurant one of these days!

Sawrey Family Photos | Tsawwassen Family Photographer

Can you feel it?

The shift in seasons is here - the evenings are darker, the sun is cooler, and while the sun is setting there is a chill in the air. I can feel myself bracing for the winter time, but then, we have evenings like this. Evenings when the Sawray family had their family photo session at Centennial Beach that reminded me why I LOVE the transition to fall.

The evening air is crisp and clear which makes for the most beautiful sunsets. Gone is the summer humid haze as we welcome pink skies and beautiful reflections off the water.

The Sawrey family showed up to their photo session ready to love, laugh and enjoy their time together. We knocked off their classic portraits in no time and spent the rest of the time playing on the beach and letting themselves be their true selves. It’s not just the photos, it’s the memories that go with them that make these sessions so special.

Now, if you scroll down to the very last photo, this may be in my top 10 of all time favorite pictures I have EVER taken. The color, the connection and her eyes just make me love everything about it!

To the Sawrey Family, thank you for spending the evening at Centennial beach with me! Although it was our first time meeting, I feel like I’ve known you all for a while :) Thank you for fun moments and sharing some fruit growing tips with me :)

Paige :)
