A Very Special Centennial Beach Family Session | Community Photography South Delta | Family Photos

“Tomorrow, they’ll be a little older than they were today. Today is a gift.”

I was first introduced to Sharon through my sister Briar. Briar and Sharon work together in the wedding industry. Sharon, however, for the past year has been on a leave from her job so she could be by her oldest sons side as he battled an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Cameron, Sharon's seven year old son, in the past year has undergone numerous surgeries, along with chemo and radiation. When Sharon was with Cameron in the hospital, they made a list of things they wanted to do once they were out. For Sharon, family photos were at the top of her list.

I arrived to Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen 20 minutes before the session began and it was raining. It had actually been raining the past 2 weeks. The session was date sensitive as a key family member was only in town for a couple days. There was no rescheduling for weather. I pulled my umbrellas from my car, however, minutes before we began shooting the rain stopped.

The dynamic between the family was loving, kind and fun. Mom Sharon has an infectious smile and they all laughed super easily. Both boys, took to the water. Mid winter in Vancouver and they were jumping over the waves in their boots. The light broke through the clouds as we were finishing our session. It was a perfect afternoon.

To the Bulger family, your courage and love can be seen from miles away. Allowing me to capture your family photos has been a privilege. Thank you for allowing me to capture this special moment for you :)

5 Tips for your Spring Photoshoot

Hurray spring is FINALLY here! Spring in Delta is an amazing time to have your family photos done. The winter haze has lifted, the weather is getting better and the flowers are coming out.

These 'tips and tricks' will help you prepare for your photo shoot. Tips from what to wear to how to prepare so your only job on photoshoot day is to be yourself, laugh a lot and let me capture photo's you will love forever.

1.) Choosing a Time & Date

I love to begin all sessions 1-2 hours before the sunset during "the golden hour", when the light is the dreamiest. You can use an online- sunset calculator to determine the time of your scheduled sunset for the date and location you'd like to do your session. If you have younger kids you may consider early spring when the sun sets at an earlier time.

2.) Dress Up!

When it comes to wardrobe there is no such thing as being to dressed up. Ladies, always say yes to the dress! And men, closed toed shoes and fitted pants (no shorts!) photograph great.

Also, don't be afraid to have some fun! Have you ever wanted to rock a flower crown? Spring is the time!

3.) Choosing Clothes

Springtime is perfect for softer, lighter tones and more neutral shades. Soft shades of pink and blues to compliment creams, whites, browns and grey. The soft colour palette fits beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments.

5.) Location

This one is up to you! I use natural light so my first choice is outdoors in wide open natural spaces. Feel free to think outside the box! I encourage you to brainstorm unique locations or somewhere you may have special access to. In spring you may consider a farm, a field of flowers or somewhere with an incredible view. Take a few minutes thinking and you may be surprised with where you come up with!

6.) Styling

If you would like to make your photos more unique and tell a bit of a story? Bring a little something extra! For spring think fresh flowers, a pretty blanket or picnic. You can incorporate larger items like a vintage bike or simple objects like a hat.

DIEFENBAKER PARK - SOUTH DELTA - MUSOKE FAMILY | FALL PHOTO SESSION

Last fall a friend approached me and asked if I could take her family photos because she had seem some photos I had posted on my personal Instagram. I had always loved photography and done it as a hobby my whole life but I had never thought of doing it professionally. I can honestly say her request sparked a passion that in the last year I turned into my career.

A year later she approached me again with the same request - fall family photos. It was a perfect fall evening to meet this beautiful family at Diefenbaker Park in Tsawwassen.

I am so thankful that I have found my passion and for the amazing people I meet everyday in doing it.
